Mr. D La Bettola Restaurant: A Tiny, Homey Corner in the Island of Boracay

This is not a paid post. We just really loved the cafe.

More than half of all the island’s restaurants, cafes, and bars were closed. McDonald’s and Jollibee were closed. Only a single ATM machine worked in which foreigners and locals wait in line to withdraw their precious money in cold cash.

Those were the situations when we visited the island of Boracay during the holiday break this year. Just recently, a typhoon flattened the island which led to flooding in some areas and put the entire island in total blackout.

But Boracay is Boracay. Hotels and restaurants looked for ways to keep their businesses running to continue earning revenues no matter what the circumstances are. But if Jollibee and McDonals are closed, well, it’s a serious problem.

For a couple of days, we scrounged the island for places to eat that were both satisfactory and memorable considering that our trip to Boracay this time is our high school section’s annual Christmas Party. We ate mostly fast foods consuming oil and artificial food. We later knew that limited food supplies including rice were coming in on the island which caused shortages of ingredients for most dishes.
